The Perfect Christmas Tree
Written On December 8, 2017
It’s that time of year again! The holidays are just around the corner. Whether you are looking for the perfect wreath, winter-themed table arrangement, festive planter, or Christmas tree – we want to help!
Cut indoor trees usually last three to four weeks, so it’s time to start thinking about where to purchase the tree that best works for you and your family. From tabletop firs to fifteen-foot spruces, these are four of our favourite places to shop for holiday greenery.
Evergreen Brick Works
An easy drive from anywhere on the east side of the city, Evergreen Brick Works is an ideal place to pick out your family Christmas tree. Evergreen Garden Market and Gift Shop has plenty of choice when it comes to species. They carry the traditional Balsam and Fraser fir, White and Scotch pine, as well as Norway and Serbian spruce. All six species are locally grown and range in size. In addition to their tree selection, they also sell wreaths and winter-themed potted arrangements. Once you’ve made your selection, you can spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing with a delicious cup of loose-leaf tea or organic coffee and at Belong Café. You may even want to indulge in one of their signature blueberry scones or buttermilk biscuits. Once you’ve warmed up, you can always take a walk behind the Brickworks buildings and soak in the valley’s pre-winter landscape.
St Lawrence Market
Every year for the last 25 years, Jeff the Christmas Tree Guy has set up an array of holiday- themed greenery at St Lawrence Market. He has wreaths, boughs, bows, garland, holly, mistletoe and Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes. This is a great place to come choose your holiday greenery if you live downtown and don’t want to venture far. Jeff has everything you might need to decorate your house or condo for the holidays. A smaller operation, Jeff is open November 24th to December 24th and only accepts cash.
Most nurseries display their Christmas trees tied up or wrapped in mesh. It can be difficult to see your tree properly. Sheridan Nurseries has an excellent solution to this problem: they suspend their trees from above! This way you can view each tree from all angles. They have six varieties of trees to choose from: Emperor fir, Cook fir, Old Fashioned Fraser fir, Fraser fir, Balsam fir, and Scots pine. Once you have decided on your tree, the nursery staff will safely secure it to your car at no extra charge. Apart from Christmas trees, they also have lovely holiday gifts, decorations, poinsettias and flower arrangements.
Drysdale’s Tree Farm
Drysdale’s has specialized in the Christmas tree experience since 1945. With over three hundred acres of trees to choose from, Drysdale’s is the perfect place to see your tree in its natural environment. You can cut down your own tree from anywhere on the farm and carry it back to your car on a quaint Christmas wagon. Cut-your-own tree services are open daily from 10pm to 4pm. If you decide to visit on the weekend, Drysdale’s turns into a Christmas Village where kids can visit Santa and his elves, get their face painted, and sip on hot chocolate while parents browse the gift shop for ornaments, candles, and other holiday décor.
There is one more special place to shop for holiday greenery: with us! Next Wednesday on December 13th, Heaps Estrin is hosting our first ever Holiday Market. Join us at our office from 11am-6pm for a day filled with wine, treats, music and local vendors. Thanks to one of our team members, Megan Till-Landry, our team will be selling homemade holiday wreaths and donating the profits to a local charity called Fetch and Releash. Fetch and Releash is a volunteer-run dog rescue and rehoming organization that specializes in giving every dog regardless of age, health, and breed a second chance at finding their forever home. For more information on Fetch and Releash, visit thier website: http://www.
Come celebrate the holiday season with us and take home a wreath made with love just for you!
