“It is amazing how often you get or give a gift that isn’t received as well as you were hoping. My husband and I have been happily married for over 20 years, and from time to time, I have been pleasantly surprised at what he has given me. He absolutely has the very best intentions but unfortunately, he hasn’t always picked the perfect presents. I would receive things like a BMI scale (how romantic), a meat grinder, an I-O-U, or worse, nothing at all. I knew I couldn’t be alone in feeling this way. I reached out to some of my friends and family members and was relieved to hear that they all felt the same.
Our birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and other special occasions reoccur every year, and many of them fall on the same date every year. Yet, somehow our partners wait until the very last minute to run out and try to find a gift.
The idea for HerWishList started when Matt and I were out celebrating our dating anniversary. Matt gave me what he thought was a beautiful purse. Being polite and not wanting to hurt his feelings, I promptly put it in my closet knowing full well it was never to see the light of day again. While we were out for dinner ( oh how I remember those days we got to go out for dinner) Matt asked where my new purse was. He saw the look on my face and realized the gifts he was giving were not being well received. So, after a couple of adult cocktails, we started brainstorming on how he could remember our important dates and how he could come up with presents I would actually like. This was when the concept of HerWishList was born.
Matt realized that what many men like him need, is someone to do the heavy lifting for them; Remind them of any upcoming anniversaries, provide curated shopping lists, and even someone to do the wrapping for them. Not to mention, someone who has taste and her best interests in mind.
We have since developed an e-commerce business to help men who are crappy shoppers. The men put in their wife’s important dates- birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day etc ( or you can put your own info in for him) and we’ll email a reminder a few weeks before the occasion with a handful of great, curated gift ideas to take the shopping out of his hands.
I am hoping all us Mom’s and wives out there can breathe a sigh of relief- our partners are “Thoughtful at last!”
