Neighbourhood Love Stories | Rosedale & Summerhill - Chapter 2: Eat

In addition to being a beautiful place to explore, Rosedale and Summerhill provide countless opportunities to indulge your inner foodie on any given day. Whether you’re in the market for a hearty breakfast or some light apps; or, whether you’re looking to host an important celebration, or in need of a quiet corner to negotiate a deal, there is always something to fit the bill. Here are a few of our team’s favourite dining destinations in this picture-perfect pocket of the city:

Rosedale Diner – From the iconic neon sign out front to the cozy back patio that significantly extends the eatery’s footprint, this spot is a Rosedale institution for many reasons, including an extensive menu that elevates traditional diner fare to new heights, as well as its beautifully curated wine and beer selections. You should try: The Rosedale Burger with a side of the restaurant’s famous fries.

Quanto Basta – Fine Italian dining with a casual twist, Quanto Basta has it all. A family-owned restaurant with a focus on good food, good drinks, good atmosphere and good friends. You should try: Ravioli Zita e Basta.

Black Camel – Sandwich lovers rejoice: your holy grail of lunches is sure to be discovered among Black Camel’s delectable offerings. Simply choose your favourite stack from among their signature staples and then customize it to make it all your own using the plethora of toppings and in-house sauces available. You should try: The Pulled BBQ Pork Shoulder with caramelized onions.

Pantry – “Happiness is created at the counter”. What originally started as a small takeout counter, has now grown into one of Rosedale’s staples for a quick bite.  Represented by Food Dudes, this one-stop shop has something for everyone’s palette. You should try: Jerk Chicken with a side of Kale Caesar Salad.

Terroni Price – The Terroni patio is legendary, thanks to spectacular views, delicious food and incomparable people-watching. Its elegant yet laid-back atmosphere is the perfect backdrop for both a business lunch or a romantic first date and offers one of the best al fresco dining experiences in the city.  You should try: Pasta. You can’t go wrong with any of the dishes featuring the Italian eatery’s signature, in-house pasta, made fresh every day.

Rebel House – The neighbourhood watering hole. This classic Ontario tavern has been a staple amongst locals for 27 years, and it’s easy to see why. With a bustling back patio and dive-bar charm, regulars often settle in for a casual post-work drink or an evening out with friends. You should try: Rebel’s Famous Caesar.

The Quail – Classic pub fare and a warm atmosphere await at this iteration of the familiar, English-style pub located at 1055 Yonge. You should try: Buffalo Cauliflower Bites.

Bar Centrale – Terroni’s counterpart and renowned wine bar – Bar Centrale was inspired by Italy’s train stations and the “regular coming and goings of people as they go about their day”. Their cozy street-level patio is perfect for catching up with friends for a post-work drink. You should try: Polpette al Sugo.

Mineral – “Inventive. Elevated. To die for.” These are just some of the descriptors you will find among the online reviews for this chic, date-night destination that serves up a menu of deliciously prepared and artfully plated Filipino fusion dishes. You should try: Mushroom Noodles with Shaved Truffle.

Sorrel – Experience French charm without ever leaving the city. This neighbourhood gem is known for casual elegant dining, with a focus on a French Mediterranean-inspired menu. Alongside amazing food, the extensive wine list will have you coming back for more. You should try: Diver Scallop Ceviche.

nutbar – This Summerhill favourite is the perfect spot to fuel up ahead of a busy day, or recharge after an intense workout. You should try: the signature nutbar Latte made with the cafés own proprietary nut milk for the former, and the Ultimate Recovery Smoothie for the latter.

Greenhouse juice – After opening their first location in the heart of Rosedale, it’s easy to see why Greenhouse juice is now a city-wide favourite for cold-pressed juices and smoothies. With all products locally made and using only organic ingredients, check out this flagship location today. You should try: The Genius.

Bon appétit!
