While Deer Park is another of Toronto’s many upscale neighbourhoods, it’s unique in the way that its residential streets spill out onto Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue, right into one of Toronto’s busiest shopping, entertainment and business districts. Its bustling centre, however, is surrounded by lush green parkland, majestic trees and the quiet, scenic Vale of Avoca ravine.
Deer Park offers a wonderful mix of detached and semi-detached houses of various architectural styles. Most of the original houses in the neighbourhood were built between 1875 and 1920. A number of newer townhouses complement the area’s older homes. Deer Park also boasts one of the largest numbers of luxury condos in Toronto, all of which look out onto the nearby parks, the ravine system and the city.
The heart of the neighbourhood is Yonge-St. Clair, one of the most loved destinations for Torontonians for a good feed and some drinks in a nice setting. Additionally, there are some truly great parks in the community, such as the Rosedale Ravine, the Rosehill Reservoir and the Vale of Avoca. The reservoir features a waterfall and a staircase system that’s popular with joggers, and there’s an excellent network of trails that is popular with walkers and cyclists. Despite these green spaces being confined within a pretty densely populated part of Toronto, they manage to give a sense of escape from city life. They add emphasis to the outdoor lifestyle that’s well loved by residents of Deer Park, who will also stroll past shop windows of Yonge-St. Clair on weekends, or take the streetcar into the city either for commuting purposes for to get their fill of Toronto nightlife.
St. Clair Subway Station is within walking distance for those taking transit, while drivers are approximately 10 minutes from downtown and 20 minutes from Toronto’s expressways and highways.
