The downtown core comprises of only 3% of Toronto’s land area, but contributes a substantial amount of the city’s vitality and economic strength. Residents of the core are consistently treated to world class food, shopping and entertainment. Located entirely within the former municipality of Old Toronto, you will find plenty of subdistricts within that have their own unique charm and character. The area offers several world class post-secondary institutions and seemingly limitless opportunities for employment.
Downtown is home to many iconic landmarks and architectural marvels like the CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, Union Station, City Hall and Massey Hall. Newer landmarks include the striking AGO and ROM Crystal structures. Skyscrapers like the First Canadian Place and Scotia Plaza towering over the Financial District.

Dine and party at thousands of restaurants, bars and nightclubs open late into the evening.
Downtown Toronto is extremely transit-friendly with multiple subway lines, streetcars, bus routes and bike sharing for getting around the neighborhood. The PATH underground shopping complex also provides sheltered access throughout Downtown in harsh weather. Traffic and parking can be difficult given the volume of commuters and visitors, so public transit is recommended for most trips into and around Downtown.
