Wychwood Park is historically significant for both the architecture of its homes and its reputation as one of Toronto’s earliest planned communities. The Wychwood Park neighbourhood was designated as an Ontario Heritage Conservation district in 1985.
All of Wychwood Park’s houses are listed on the Toronto Historical Board’s Inventory of Heritage Properties. A handful of the first Wychwood Park houses were built in the late 1800s, however most of them were built in stages between 1906 and 1935. A few were also built in the early 1950s. Many of the neighbourhood’s older houses were designed by Eden Smith, an architect who specialized in the English Arts and Crafts style. The influence of Smith’s traditional English style is evident throughout Wychwood Park.
Both the Davenport Road bus and the St. Clair Avenue streetcar connect transit riders to Dupont Subway Station on the Yonge-University-Spadina line, while the Bathurst bus connects to Bathurst Subway Station on the Bloor-Danforth line. Drivers are approximately 10 minutes from both downtown and the Allen Expressway, off Eglinton Avenue.
